Here at QaTFM, we rate on a letter scale – A-plus to F-minus. We feel that this gives us a much larger range than a simple number or star-rating. Each letter also has a bit of descriptive character to it. A movie rated B- can be bad, but fun. Calling it a 7 out of 10 just isn’t the same. An F you shouldn’t ever bother watching, but but it could still be 1 star of 5. We each have our own take on what each letter grade means.
A+ The films that people list later to define their genre.
A The movies that Top 10 lists are slotted with.
A- Excellent movies well worth seeing in the theater as soon as they’re released.
B+ Great stuff that particularly excels in some areas.
B Real decent flicks that lack only a bit.
B- Movies that rise just slightly above mediocrity.
C+ Ho-hum movies that have shards of interest and best suited for home viewing.
C A pretty average way to spend your time/money.
C- Movies that aren’t that great, but could be worse.
D+Generally bad films that probably have a real rough gem.
D An awful film only a diehard really needs to see.
D- A rotten movie that is just barely watchable for whatever reason.
F A terrible movie. You should avoid it.
F- An offense not only to the viewer but should also be to all involved. Including the concession stand people.
A+ You must see this movie. Kill to get a ticket. Buy the DVD when it comes out.
A You must see this movie. It’s almost as good as a film can get.
A- Great movie with a flaw or two.
B+ Good movie, very enjoyable to watch, a few flaws.
B Good movie, fun watch, catch it if you’ve got time.
B- Good movie, but probably has too many flaws. Might want to wait for the DVD instead of see it in the theater.
C+ I usually reserve this for films that are fun to watch, but have potentially bad acting, effects, plot, etc.
C Nothing special. Definitely wait for DVD.
C- Watchable, might have a good moment or two, but don’t watch it unless it just happens to be on.
D+ Bad movie, very few redeeming qualities, but you can get through it.
D Bad movie, you can watch it, but you probably wouldn’t want to.
D- Bad movie, you’ll end up leaving or falling asleep.
F Terrible movie. Don’t rent the DVD, don’t even look at the movie poster. Make your friends watch it.
F- This is reserved for the worst of the worst. Usually I give this to a movie that is not only bad, but insults my intelligence, or was just not a good effort. I rarely walk out of a theater, but this movie will probably send me over the edge. Adam Sandler movies get this rating by default.
